Bought a locked (OTB) 1.1.2 iPhone? PDF Print E-mail
Have you recently purchased (or being given) an iPhone from the US? It is most likely on firmware 1.1.2, which means there is currently no free software unlock for the iPhone. We have been receiving many e-mails about what the possible steps are to take now, and we've decided it's best to post it on the website for everyone to read. So what are your options?

[1] Wait. You can wait patiently for the free software unlock to come out. This may be tomorrow, next week, next month - there is no certain date (if any) that this unlock will come out.

[2] Execute the hardware unlock - At hackint0sh, a forum member has brought to the attention of many keen 1.1.2 iPhoners about a free hardware unlock for 1.1.2. It requires you to OPEN UP your iPhone. From our reading, it has had a high failure rate with many people blocked out permanently and damaging their iPhone beyond repair. Again, try this at your own risk. We do not recommend it.

[3] Downgrade to an iPod Touch - Yes, it's possible to use it as a temporary iPod Touch (iPhone minus the call features). Following a few simple jailbreaking steps can end you with this.

[4] TurboSIM/StealthSIM Solution - Buy one of these cloning solutions (physical product) and you can trick the iPhone into thinking your SIM is an AT&T SIM card. Although not a cheap solution, it allows you to have full functionality of the iPhone (including call features). Here at iPhoneUnlockAustralia, we sell these StealthSIMs and provide instructions to prepare your iPhone for it.
