Stolen iPhones on eBay PDF Print E-mail

Every now and then, we check the prices on eBay for iPhones in Australia. They've been dropping from $1200 down to an average of $650 now, which is good for those who want to get a hold of one.

In the last two weeks, we've noticed a few peculiar 'Buy it Now' listings, with iPhones as cheap as $300AUD offering nothing more but the unit itself (no charger, cable, box) - obviously signs of a iPhone that has been found or even stolen.

So what can you do to protect yourself? Until firmware 2.0 comes out, which has a feature to remote wipe your iPhone, you can start off by writing down your IMEI and Serial Number (on the back of the iPhone). If it ever gets lost/stolen, you can get the IMEI blocked through your carrier. With a serial number, you can check by asking eBay sellers [with a dodgy listing] what the serial number is, and can report it to eBay. To be more secure, use a PIN code for your SIM card, and an unlock code for your iPhone. Better safe than sorry!
