We've received many e-mails about connecting to EDGE through Telstra's 3G network. Yes. That is the answer to your question. It IS possible.
Pascal B notified us that he got his iPhone working on a Telstra 3G data plan. He paid $10.00 for 20MB per month plan. This was the smallest package for EDGE.
This link provides GPRS settings for most carriers worldwide.
For Telstra users, just set the APN to "telstra.wap", and leave the username and password blank.
