Rogers Communications Inc. said Tuesday it has reached an agreement to bring Apple Inc.'s iPhone to Canada later this year.
But the company declined to give pricing details or say when it would begin offering the popular mobile handset, which has drawn praise for its sleek design and internet capabilities since it was first launched a year ago in the United States. Earlier this week, Apple said it expected to sell 10 million iPhones worldwide this year.
"We're thrilled to announce that we have a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Canada later this year," said president Ted Rogers in a brief statement. "We can't tell you any more about it right now, but stay tuned."
Apple and wireless partner O2 this week will slash the price of its iPhone handset in the UK to £169 from £269 as part of a limited promotion, according to a new report.
The move will see the localized version of the 8GB iPhone sell for just $333, or considerably less than the current US$399 fetching price within the United States, according to Mobile Today.
The overseas trade publication, which did not name sources, said an announcement is expected Wednesday and that the 16GB model would not see a similar reduction, remaining at £329.
…according to Walt Mossberg from the Wall Street Journal. In a report from 9to5mac, Walt speaks about broadband in the US, and near the end of the segment, he mentions that the 3G iPhone will be here in 60 days. News coming from Walt should be a good source I would think, given his history with the iPhone.
If you don’t know who Walt Mossberg is, he was one of the “secret” testers of the iPhone before it was released in the US. He got one of the units and just loved it. If history repeats itself, then it is most likely that Walt is using a 3G iPhone courtesy of Apple. Who knows if he accidentally spilled the beans on the 3G release, given all the recent rumors surrounding the issue.
In the following video, title “How the FTC Should Stop Calling DSL Broadband“, Mr. Mossberg spills the beans at 6:35 in…watch it for yourself:
Considering how the iPhone is not even in Canada yet…this might be a hint that it could be coming. But then again, what’s the point of a 3G iPhone in Canada, if our data plans here are just pure and utter poop? We need a new GSM carrier in Canada, NOW folks!
